Alta Floresta

At the heart of the continent, in the state of Mato Grosso, is the town of Alta Floresta (about 66’000 inhabitants). Here, in the highlands of the southern Amazon, the largest tropical forest area in the world, livestock breeders, cheese factories and the timber trade (especially mahogany) and the famous Paranuts live.

The plateau is ecologically very interesting, characterized by the wild and intact nature. The Cristalino River and the Teles Pires offer important habitats for thousands of plant and animal species. Many monkeys (eg marmosets, Capuchin monkeys) and birds (macaws, toucans, herons, spikes) can be observed at short distances. The ideal place to observe in solitude and tranquility the fauna and flora. There are excursions and interesting tours to choose from.
